Just up the street from The Feast Worldwide Dinner at Center 548, even more dreamers, makers and doers were getting full on good in the big city with a simultaneous New York City Worldwide Dinner.
Shana Dressler who attended The Feast Conference 2013 as a Feast Fellow left towards the end to host the event at the Social Innovators Collective. She started planning the worldwide dinner about a month beforehand. This was before she even knew she would be attending the conference herself.
“It was a way to pull the New York City community together,” Dressler said.
She went all out with a fall themed part-potluck, part-donation dinner with decor including 40 pumpkins, 30 gourds, leaves, candles, and personalized name tags. Around 115 New Yorkers attended, many of which are entrepreneurs or heavily involved in the growing social innovation sector. The night started off with appetizers and drinks before moving into dinner and discussion.
There were 15 tables, each with a table leader from different organizations including 92Y, The NYC Department of Small Business services and Indiegogo (See the full list of table leaders and outreach partners here.) Those who attended were assigned seats at the tables based off the challenge they wanted to tackle. This included the three challenges from The Feast Conference and an extra two that the ambitious groups decided to take on: the environment and women+girls.
Overall Dressler says the night was filled with so many amazing people, many of which came up to her throughout the night saying how much they were enjoying it.
One such person was Glenda Luft Felden, the Director of Marketing and Communications at Charitybuzz, who said, ”There was definitely an electric buzz of world-changing energy in the room. It was inspiring to connect with passionate people from so many diverse sectors and engage in substantial discussions about some of today’s most pressing topics. I’m already looking forward to next year.”
